By the Kids, For the Kids is an award-winning charity event benefiting the local community.

As the name implies, this program is by the kids.  In other words, it is completely student produced-and-performed. Although SingOut! provides adult supervision, all onstage creative decisions are implemented by student directors and producers. Your student will work and play with their peers, learning music and choreography to create exciting theatrical numbers.  In the past, students have performed to songs from popular shows like Wicked, The Lion King, American Idiot, Newsies, and many more. High school students can also apply to join the talented team of student directors, allowing them to see their artistic vision come alive.

This program is also for the kids.  One-hundred percent of all funds raised through tickets, concessions, raffles, and auctions during the event is divided evenly between two deserving charities: the SingOut! Scholarship Fund and The Monument Crisis Center. The SingOut! Scholarship Fund provides financial help to qualified families for tuition and travel expenses. The Monument Crisis Center is a “community based non-profit family resource center for Central and East Contra Costa County.  Located in Concord, the Center offers nutritious food, quality resources and referrals to low-income individuals and families in order to help them become stable and secure in our community.”

Frances Hughes and Megan Fitzgerald began acting, singing, and dancing with SingOut! staff many years ago—Frances as a fifth grader back in 2004 and Megan a year later when she was in sixth grade. When they graduated into our high school program, they went the extra mile and became interns, where they discovered that they loved working with children. They created By the Kids, For the Kids in 2009 with a desire to give back to the theatre community that played such a huge role in their young lives.  Although Megan and Frances graduated out of our program in 2011, passing the directors’ baton down to the next generation of Teen Interns year after year has become a huge part of the SingOut! experience and tradition. After all, we believe that creating community leaders and compassionate human beings is just as important as creating strong performers.

For students age 8-18.  No audition necessary to enter, but auditions will occur in-class to determine which scenes your student will perform.
